After School Clubs

After School Clubs

We run after school clubs each week for all our pupils.

Kepier Choir Festival

The second choir festival took place at Kepier school on Wednesday 7th December.  The children from all the schools were fantastic and sang beautifully.  Kepier school choir started the concert off, followed by our choir here at East Rainton, then Eppleton and ending with Newbottle. The children were able to see how they could could continue their singing once they leave Primary school and move to secondary school by joining a secondary choir.

Thank you to all the parents/relatives and friends who supported the children-it makes the event even more special to them-I do hope you were lucky in the raffle?!  Mrs Hall took some lovely photographs of the event.

Singing in the Catherdral

What an amazing day the choir had today at Durham Cathedral! They rehearsed all morning and perormed during the afternoon. The children worked very hard and should be extremely proud of themselves! Thank you to all the parents/guardians who helped the children learn all the words for the songs - these were really tricky to learn! Thank you also to all those parents/relatives and friends that came to see the children perform- it made it even more special for the children.

Unfortunately I was not allowed to take photographs of the actual performance but we did find a few opportunities throughout the day.  You can access the Cathedral's Facebook page which has an official photograph of the day.

When asking the children how they enjoyed the day, they said it was an amazing experience which is great to hear. They also loved the fact that they stored their lunches and coats in a room that was used in the Harry Potter movies!

Durham Cathedral preparations

The rehearsals for the choir to perform at Durham Cathedral are going very well with Anna, a music specialist, visiting school to practice the songs the children will be singing. Some of the music and lyrics are quite challenging for the children but they are working extremely hard. The children also  enjoyed a morning with 3 other primary schools as well as Durham Choristers practicing the songs for the performance. They were able to chat with the choristers and find out what life was like living at the school.

The children have two more rehearsals before the performance on the 23rd November. The children are very excited about performing in the cathedral.

Subcategories

This term always proves to be the most busy of the year so the choir are already learning some new songs and working hard singing in different parts.  We are fortunate to have Miss Laura Taylor come and work with us for the next couple of weeks which the children are really looking forward to.

Preparations will be taking place soon for the Christmas Production as well as our visits to the Bridges Shopping Centre and hopefully some other venues before Christmas.

With our previous Year 6 having left, we do unusually have a few spare places in the choir so if you fancy joining and having some fun please let the office know.

If you have any questions or need further information please let me know.

Regards,

Mrs Curry
