Choir

Welcome back to the choir!

This term always proves to be the most busy of the year so the choir are already learning some new songs and working hard singing in different parts.  We are fortunate to have Miss Laura Taylor come and work with us for the next couple of weeks which the children are really looking forward to.

Preparations will be taking place soon for the Christmas Production as well as our visits to the Bridges Shopping Centre and hopefully some other venues before Christmas.

With our previous Year 6 having left, we do unusually have a few spare places in the choir so if you fancy joining and having some fun please let the office know.

If you have any questions or need further information please let me know.

Regards,

Mrs Curry

Singing in the Catherdral

What an amazing day the choir had today at Durham Cathedral! They rehearsed all morning and perormed during the afternoon. The children worked very hard and should be extremely proud of themselves! Thank you to all the parents/guardians who helped the children learn all the words for the songs - these were really tricky to learn! Thank you also to all those parents/relatives and friends that came to see the children perform- it made it even more special for the children.

Unfortunately I was not allowed to take photographs of the actual performance but we did find a few opportunities throughout the day.  You can access the Cathedral's Facebook page which has an official photograph of the day.

When asking the children how they enjoyed the day, they said it was an amazing experience which is great to hear. They also loved the fact that they stored their lunches and coats in a room that was used in the Harry Potter movies!

Durham Cathedral preparations

The rehearsals for the choir to perform at Durham Cathedral are going very well with Anna, a music specialist, visiting school to practice the songs the children will be singing. Some of the music and lyrics are quite challenging for the children but they are working extremely hard. The children also  enjoyed a morning with 3 other primary schools as well as Durham Choristers practicing the songs for the performance. They were able to chat with the choristers and find out what life was like living at the school.

The children have two more rehearsals before the performance on the 23rd November. The children are very excited about performing in the cathedral.

Exciting times ahead for the choir

The choir have already started practicing for the terms forthcoming events.  As well as the normal lead upto Christmas performances, we are alo very pleased to have been asked to be one of a few schools to be part ofthe Durham Outreach project.  This involves singing with some of the choristers from Durham Cathedral and ending with a singing event on 23rd Novemeber in the Cathedral.  Parents will, of course, be invited to attend.

We will also be singing at the schools coffee morning, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care, so please come along as every penny is put to a great cause.

A further choir festival is in the planning stage at Kepier, as the last one was a huge success-so keep an eye out for further news!

Choir runs on a Thursday after school from 3.30-4.30 and we currently have a small number of places available.  If your child would like to join, please contact the office to have their name recorded for the after school club.

Thank you

Choir Festival

Well what an amazing time was had at the Choir Festival at Kepier- the children sang beautifully! It was quite daunting on such a big stage with lights and microphones but they certainly sang their very best-well done to each of them! Due to the success of the event we will hopefully arrange another event next year. Thank you to all parents/guardians for supporting your children with their singing- it makes my job so much easier. Take a look at our photos and videos (apologies for my back to everyone).
