Rotakids

IMG0947This year we introduced Rotakids. The children elected by their peers will be part of a commitee who will work with members of the rotary club to raise money for local, national and multi-national charities.

We had a special assembly to introduce children, parents and staff to the member of the commitee.

Hetton School Science

Class 5 went to Hetton School for a Science lesson.

In the Science lab we had to wear safety goggles and we used lots of different equipment including conical flasks and filter paper. We mixed acid and powder until it was completely dissolved. Then we filtered the solution and poured it into a dish. After 2 weeks we should have some crystals.

After that we had lots of fun with the Van De Graaff generator. The static electricity it produced made our hair stand on end!
Finally we watched an experiment called Elephant's toothpaste - yellow oozing foam was created as a result of a chemical reaction.
We thought our science lesson was really cool!

The Choir sing in the Cathedral

What an amazing day the choir had today at Durham Cathedral! They rehearsed all morning and perormed during the afternoon. The children worked very hard and should be extremely proud of themselves! Thank you to all the parents/guardians who helped the children learn all the words for the songs - these were really tricky to learn! Thank you also to all those parents/relatives and friends that came to see the children perform- it made it even more special for the children.

Unfortunately I was not allowed to take photographs of the actual performance but we did find a few opportunities throughout the day.  You can access the Cathedral's Facebook page which has an official photograph of the day.

When asking the children how they enjoyed the day, they said it was an amazing experience which is great to hear. They also loved the fact that they stored their lunches and coats in a room that was used in the Harry Potter movies!

I do hope we have more opportunities to perform in the Cathedral in the future and after today's performance, I am sure we will be in the running to take part again.

Well done to everyone of the children!

sunderland echo recption openingOur brand new reception area is officially open!

We got to meet our local MP, Bridget Phillipson, who came to cut the ribbon.

We all got together to celebrate the official opening and we were able to ask Ms Phillipson, MP for Houghton and Sunderland South, about her role during a question and answer session.

Ms Phillipson said: “I was delighted to be invited to officially open the school’s new reception and office area. The school has already achieved an impressive Ofsted report and I am sure the new area combined with their improved sports facilities will help them to build further on that success.” Our Head teacher Mrs Toole said: “East Rainton Primary school has invested in the future by building a spacious reception area and office area which improves the safety and security of the school. In addition, the school has dramatically improved the sports facilities with a multi user games area.”
